A conventional medical practice maintains several
thousand patient “charts” representing individual
patients in order to stay in business. Physicians
have a limited amount of time to devote to each scheduled
appointment, often making it difficult to address
all of the concerns and questions each patient may
have. Because of this often-rushed, high-paced, productivity-oriented
environment, patients often have difficulty scheduling
appointments when they may be needed most, faced
with long waits when appointments are made, and subjected
to inconvenient delays in crowded clinic waiting
rooms.
Desert Medical Consultants is a patient-oriented,
membership-based “retainer” practice limiting its
total patient base to only 600 individuals. This
design allows for immediate appointment access, same
or next-day appointments, and adequate face-to-face
time with your physician.
Because of this environment, you will be able to
have all of your questions and concerns addressed
without feeling rushed or ignored. No more “hurried
healthcare” you can finally have the care you desire
and deserve.
Do
I Still Need Insurance?
The benefits of participating in our new practice
style with improved wellness and individualized
care can be retained independent of a member’s
insurance status. However, it is recommended
that you continue to carry some level of insurance
as your insurance is still billed for services
provided, in-office medications, diagnostic procedures
performed (ultrasound, electrocardiography, etc.)
and equipment supplied. Your individual insurance
coverage is a necessity when it comes to emergency
room or hospital visits, prescription medications,
diagnostic tests performed outside of our office
or specialist visits. We do, however, have patients
who have chosen not to carry medical insurance
of any kind and they accept and understand the
responsibilities that accompany this.
Does Insurance Cover my
"Retainer" Fee?
No. Neither Medicare nor private insurance will
pay for or reimburse a patient’s membership fee
at Desert Medical Consultants or at any retainer-based
medical practice. The good news is that in many
cases your insurance premiums may be reduced by
coupling a Health Savings Account with a higher
deductible medical insurance plan. In the long
run, this will likely be less expensive than a
standard low-deductible, higher premium plan which
most families currently have.
Who is this Model Best
Suited For?
Desert Medical Consultants is appropriate for
anyone who takes their health seriously and desires
the convenience of accessibility to their physician.
We work for you, and are available to our patients
around the clock. If you believe that you may need
your physician at any time of any day, this service
is suited for you. Our patients will receive quality
healthcare, preventative medicine and wellness
at service levels far beyond that which they have
previously experienced. We accept both healthy
and chronically ill patients, all levels of education
and income, 16 years old and older.
What if I Need a Specialist?
If a specialist referral is required for your
care, the staff at Desert Medical Consultants will
coordinate and schedule your appointment for you
before you leave our office. If the specialist’s
office is unavailable at the time of scheduling,
we will continue to make an appointment for you
on your behalf. You will certainly be able to continue
to see any specialists that you currently follow.
Once your specialist appointment is complete, we
will know (remember we scheduled your appointment
for you) and will proactively pursue any transcriptions
or instructions provided to you.
What if I Need to Go to
the Hospital?
Dr. Brimhall maintains hospital staff privileges
at several local hospitals and will admit and supervise
his own patients at any of the St. Rose Facilities
(De Lima, Siena and San Martin) at HealthSouth
Henderson Rehab facility, TLC and The Palms assisted
living centers. If a patient chooses a different
hospital for admission or procedures, Dr. Brimhall
will arrange for a hospitalist physician (only
the best) to supervise and manage your inpatient
care.
What About After Hours
Emergencies?
With your membership at Desert Medical Consultants
you will be provided with Dr. Brimhall’s (and his
associates) personal emergency cell phone number
ringing through directly to him. There are no third
party triage or answering services between you
and your doctor for after-hours emergencies.
What About Labwork, Xrays
and Ancillary Services?
We are able to provide many services and in-office
diagnostic tests at our office when appropriate.
We regularly draw blood samples and what cannot
be processed at the office is couriered to the
laboratory of your choice. Electrocardiography,
spirometry (measures of lung function), pulse oximetry
(measurement of arterial oxygen), dermoscopy (skin
cancer screening), holter testing (continual heart
beat analysis) and other diagnostic testing is
done while you wait with immediate results. Ultrasounds
and stress tests are provided for patients requiring
non-urgent testing with results available within
about one week of the procedure. For advanced diagnostic
tests, we will work with your insurance provider
to find the most appropriate and convenient provider
and location.
What About Prescriptions?
We are generous in prescription medication samples
if they are available. Prescription refills can
be faxed or called to your pharmacy during our
regular business hours. Members also have Dr. Brimhall’s
emergency cell phone number if medications are
required urgently. For chronic medications, prescription
coverage via your insurance is the most appropriate
method of sustaining medication supplies.
What if I Relocate or
Leave the Practice?
We would hate to see you leave but will gladly
transfer your medical records at your request to
your new physician. All of our records are stored
electronically and upon your departure your records
will be copied to CD and sent to your new physician.
With 30 days notice, the unused portion of paid
retainer fees will be refunded beginning from the
first of the month following the month of the notice
given.
Home or Workplace Visits?
With our added availability for office appointments,
these visits are rarely necessary. However, if
Dr. Brimhall believes that such a visit is essential
to your health and well being, it will be handled
on a case by case basis. For your friends that
desire the convenience of Home, Office or Workplace
visits that may not be interested in membership
at Desert Medical Consultants, please visit www.VIPHouseCall.com,
Southern Nevada’s finest “housecall” service.
What About Businesses
Providing Employees with Healthcare?
The primary advantage of using Desert Medical
Consultants as your business healthcare partner
is the exceptional level of service combined with
the unparalleled medical coverage for your employees.
Employee coverage includes, in addition to all
previously identified amenities, annual physical
exams and pre-employment screening. The standard
of care at Desert Medical Consultants is an aspiration
to increase overall health and early disease detection.
Many of the members of this practice opt for larger
deductible plans that require smaller monthly premiums.
In many cases, your business membership can actually
decrease health care costs for both the company
and employee.
What to Expect?
You can expect a higher level of wellness and
health than you have previously experienced. Coupled
with unparalleled service and the individualized
attention that you deserve you will immediately
recognize a different approach to your healthcare.
Dr. Brimhall and his staff find great satisfaction
in what they do and are familiar with each and
every one of their patients. With this new model
of care, you will finally experience the preventative
health you deserve.
