* We lead primary care in melanoma screening. A dermatoscope is a handheld instrument that uses polarized light and magnification to better illuminate potentially worrisome skin lesions. If a lesion appears suspicious, the lesion is carefully photographed using the digital SolarScan system—a system designed in Australia that compares your skin lesion with a database of more than 4,000 known melanoma variants. Based on a score given the lesion by this digital system, the lesion is either resected, or monitored carefully. As a high resolution digital photograph, future monitoring is simple, and detecting subtle changes is significantly more accurate then the physician’s own recollection.
